In total, the NEA has given around $5 billion to support the arts in America. The arts have important cultural and economic impacts on our society, as demonstrated in a recent report by the SMU National Center for Arts Research. In fact, in 2015 U.S. non-profit arts and cultural organizations spent $31.7 billion and employed over 900,000 people. Without a doubt, NEA has played an instrumental role in funding these organizations.
