What's On Your Phone, Wendi Weinman?

An interview with Wendi Weinman, Director of Center Marketing at 92nd Street Y.

Nora: What are the apps you use every day and why do you like them?

Wendi:

92Y – Upcoming Events at 92Y

Bands in Town – I like to know who is coming that is competition for work. I also like that you choose your favorite artists when you download the app and you can see when they will be in your hometown city.

YPlan – Aggregator of all events going on in my city. I love that they filter it based on my tastes and they help to cull through the events based on what’s hot right now. In a market filled with things to do I appreciated the curatorial voice.

Foursquare – I love discovering new places in a neighborhood. Foursquare check-in’s allow me to store where I have been so when friends call for a recommendation I can go to the app and look at my history—where I have been and what I liked about it—i.e. best meal, great service etc.

Google Maps – Helps me get around when going from point A to point B with great Map accuracy and real time traffic (better than Hop Stop which was the app I used before I changed to an iPhone). This was the main reason I changed over to an iPhone, along with the ability to use FaceTime to chat with my nieces! (Which has yet to happen).

Instagram – Great for taking photos and giving them an artful look to share.

Moviefone – Great app to see movie schedules all in one place not by theatre. I love to geo locater.

Today TIX– Great App for Broadway show tickets. It’s easy to see what’s available for purchase now. Feels like TKTS in the palm of your hand.

The Bowery Presents – This presenter created an app that allows you to easily see the cities they book and the respective venues they manage. See all shows / just announced shows / the 5 venues they book in NYC listen. It’s easy to see if something is sold out without having to call the venue. There are great artist descriptions right in the app. You don’t have to leave it.

N: Is there an app that surprised you with its usefulness?

W: Google Maps!

N: If you could recommend one app for every arts manager, what would it be?

W: Bands in Town, for non-rock artists!
