Dear Readers,
We are back from our much needed vacation! I hope that you have all had a great summer. As the incoming Chief Editor of AMT-Lab, I am looking forward to a year of sharing content that explores new tools, emerging trends, and organizational case studies at the intersection of arts and technology.
Over the summer, Executive Director Dr. Brett Ashley Crawford and I worked together to assemble a diverse mix of research areas across a broad spectrum of disciplines. We drew from the results of our annual Survey of the Field to see how we can best serve your needs, and we are eager to share this research with you over the course of the next year. Our talented team of writers will be writing original research on topics ranging from the role that data plays in arts organization to the distribution and preservation of both traditional and emerging forms; from the changing landscape of digital arts education programs to new digital economies. This research will be complemented by our signature mix of product reviews, interviews, and more!
In case you’d like to know more about me, I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and I’ve worked in theaters and museums in Pittsburgh, Chicago and New York City. In each of these cities I’ve been drawn to progressive, engaging and bold organizations that are pushing the boundaries of integrating technology, management, and the arts. As an avid reader, I’m always searching for the “new” and I can’t wait to bring this sensibility to the platform. I arrived in Pittsburgh in 2011, and recently graduated from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama. Now I’m entering my final year in the Masters of Arts Management program here at Carnegie Mellon, and I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the AMT-Lab team, following the wonderful work of previous Chief Editors Stewart Urist and Jackie Shimshoni.
On behalf of our Executive Director, our wonderful group of contributors, and the entire the AMT-Lab team, I look forward to having you along for the ride! We’d love to hear from you as we continue to explore what is new at the crossroads of arts and technology. Follow us at @techinthearts, like us on Facebook, and let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
Thanks!
Patrick Zakem
