White Paper Wednesday: Navigating the Cloud

For this week's White Paper Wednesday, AMT Lab looks back at Stewart Urist's 2014 publication, Navigating the Cloud: A Practical Guide for Arts Organizations. This handy paper first defines the cloud for wary arts administrators, before going on to look at different forms and categories of cloud-based computing. Urist closely examines Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud computing as well as Software as a Service (SaaS), the most common form of cloud based computing in the Arts.

At the time of this paper's initial publication in 2014, 96% of US adults relied on the cloud on a regular basis. It is safe to say that cloud based computing has only become more common in the last two years, and it is important for arts administrators and technologists to understand the basic functionality of the cloud now more than ever.
