Ceci Dadisman, Palm Beach Opera's Director of PR and Marketing, sat down with AMTLab to talk about her work and how she utilizes a variety of digital platforms to market more effectively and increase audience engagement. She also offered numerous tips about how arts organizations can get started in the world of new media. Here are a few favorite pointers:
- Your website is the face of your organization. Every arts organization should have control of its site and have the ability to modify or add new content as needed. Ceci suggests wordpress.com as an affordable way for organizations to build great-looking sites that are also easy to maintain.
- Social Media is about engagement, not hard sales. Ceci recommends following an 80/20 rule: 80 percent engagement, 20 percent sales. Pushing a hard sales message can result in followers recoiling and tuning out your digital media. Instead, pose questions to spark conversations, post behind-the-scenes pictures or videos, and don’t be afraid to engage directly with patrons who post on your pages.
- Have a presence on Facebook, and if you are only on Facebook, that's OK! It's better to have one or just a few social media accounts that are active rather than a large number of inactive profiles.
